NCAA Bans Indian Names!

The NCAA
has ruled that college teams cannot use any words that are associated with Native Americans. Here is a list of names and words that must be banned to comply with the NCAA edict.
34 states have names originating from Native Americans. They are Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Wisconsin, and Wyoming all must be banned. All Colleges and Universities that contain any of these names such as the Univ. of Utah, Univ. of Michigan, Florida State University, and All the Universities of California, must be banned.
There are so many cities that are named after Native Americans that I cannot list them all so I will just name a few. Seattle, Chappaqua, Miami, Tampa, Sioux City, Sioux falls, Ontario, Chicago, Milwaukee, Sheboygan, Kissimmee, Toledo, Reno, El Paso, Albuquerque, Tulsa, Ottawa, Buffalo, Poughkeepsie, Mesa, Cheyenne, Savannah, Honolulu, Texarkana, Spokane, and Indianapolis. They all must be banned according to the NCAA.
Indianapolis is especially Ironic since it is the headquarters of the NCAA. To avoid being hypocritical are they going to remove Indianapolis and Indiana from their letterheads? Read an excellent article in the
American Spectator
about that.
Lakes and rivers that must never be mentioned by sports teams are Huron, Erie, Michigan, Niagara, Mississippi, Ohio, Okeechobee, Suwannee, just to name a few.
Words that must be immediately banned from all college campi include: Banana, chocolate, caribou, raccoon, potato, barbecue, bayou, cactus, cashew, caucus, chili, cigar, coca, condor, guacamole, hammock, hickory, hurricane, iguana, jaguar, mahogany, mosquito, parka, papaya, squash, succotash, sugar, tobacco, tomato, and yucca.
What is next for the NCAA to ban because someone may take offence? Will they ban all animal names because PETA might be offended, or all cities with religious names because the ACLU is offended? Where does all this ridiculous political correctness end?
Should these words be banned, or should we realize that by using these names and words we are honoring the cultural contributions of native Americans?

As far as I'm concerned let's ban all sports teams. Period. No sweat off my...uh, never mind. That would cure this deal AND the controversy of prayer at high school games. Win-win situation as they say...

the political correct crowd will not rest until there is NO TRACE of the united states we all know and love.
Will the irish demand Norte Dame trashcan the fighting irish?
Will the blacks demand that nevadas "running rebels" be disbanded?

It's a total load. There's no reason the governing body needs to deal with this. If people had a problem with a school's name, they could deal with the school individually.

PC Run amok again! Here in Va, we have the William and Mary Tribe. And they are being banned! For a non-offensive description of their way of life!

Once again the PC crowd is trying to do away with any trace of our history. Don't mention anything native American, don't show anything with a confederate flag, don't display anything that denotes any religion especially if it's Christian all in the name of not offending anyone. Heck, a lot of the historical southern plantation tours don't even mention slavery anymore!
It is the same problem we have with litigation in the US. Our society trying to protect everyone against themselves. Whatever happened to independence and self accountability. I happen to believe in myself enough to know that the CMU Chippewas are named that after the tribes of that area not because they want to offend anyone. It is just silly and uncalled for!
